Why Sustainable Working is Important for a Scale Up

A scale up, a company looking to grow and/or expand, offers plenty of opportunity to use sustainable working to its advantage. Sustainable working is essentially about the following: When you feel good and motivated at work and in your personal life, you radiate this and can naturally make a valuable contribution. In short, sustainable work means going to work with enthusiasm and being able to stay at work for a long time.

By focusing on sustainable working, a scale-up can distinguish itself from other (larger) market players in various ways. In the 'second war for talent', sustainable working as a core idea of employer branding gives the scale up the advantage of retaining engaged employees and attracting new talent. It is imperative that a scale up is not only aware of the 'why a (potential) employee wants to work for the organisation' (the Employee Value Proposition) but also communicates this 'why message' consistently. In the current and future work context, it is increasingly important that people can connect with an organisation's mission and ambitions. Thus, good storytelling can connect (potential) employees by sharing work experience, needs and requirements.

Sustainable working also contributes positively to the shift from lifetime employment to employability (work and agile work). It requires a continuous investment in today and tomorrow to create a working environment that facilitates knowledge sharing - and construction. Crucial to this is encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their own talent and career development.

Sustainable scale-ups make maximum use of their strengths, enabling them to deal with change more flexibly and breathe with their environment. This not only allows them to build for the future in a healthy way, but also ensures the well-being of their employees, including a balanced work/life balance now and in the future.
